Choosing the best newsletter names can be a daunting task.  Most business owners never take the time to even develop a newsletter for their business.  Therefore the fact that you’re developing one for your business is a step in the right direction.

How to Choose the Best Newsletter Names?

Step 1 – First of all, your newsletter name should be short and sweet.  The name of our newsletter is “Connections” and that’s because we’re a Network for Women in Business and our mission is to train, connect and advance female entrepreneurs.  Which brings me to the next thing that your newsletter name should be.

Step 2 – Make sure your newsletter name aligns with your mission or what you do.  For example if your newsletter is about pets you could call it  “Animal Kingdom” or if your newsletter is about cooking you could call it “Stirring the Pot”.  These examples are good ones.  Other examples of aligned newsletter names are:

  • Road Runners Gazette (For running lovers)
  • Heartbeats (For Cardiologists)
  • Pearly Whites (For Dentists)
  • Cherry On Top (For Bakeries)
  • On The Web (For Website Designers)
  • Under Your Hood (For Mechanics)
  • No More Achy Joints (For Massage Therapist)
  • Smooth Moves (For Dance Studios)
  • The Mane Thing (For Beauticians)
  • Talking Heads (Also for Hair Stylist)

Step 3 – Make your newsletter name something easy to remember.  One way to make your newsletter memorable is to make it rhyme.  Also making the pun intended is another way to make your newsletter name memorable.  For example, Between the Sheets for a bed linen company is good.  Or The Dozy Owl for a Mattress Review company is excellent.

The key is to be creative and have fun when coming up with your newsletter names.

Getting Great Newsletter Responses

The mail purpose of a newsletter is to get your ideal customer or client to engage with you on a level that’s more personal. You want to build relationships with them and get them to know, like and trust you.  Some ways you can increase engagement is to:

  • Include their name when possible. There is just something special about someone seeing their name in an email.  It makes them feel as if you’re speaking directly to them.
  • Include surveys in your emails to get feedback on your product or service.  This will allow you to use your email list to conduct market research.
  • Provide links to opt-ins for other services or items.  Especially if you’re running sales on key items.
  • Insert Pictures into your newsletters.  You what they say and that is that a picture is worth a thousand words.  You can make your newsletters much more engaging by inserting photos.

Getting Your Newsletters Opened!

It’s not easy to get your newsletters opened. The secret to getting them opened is a great headline. And the number one trick to getting emails opened is a negative headline.  People are intrigued by negative headlines, which is why newspapers like The NY Daily News sell so well.  Examples of negative headlines are:

  • I messed up…
  • My mistake is your gain…
  • The biggest mistake I made this year… (A good one for the end of the year)
  • I lost so much money doing this…
  • I’ve got some bad news…

Negative headlines always have a way of piquing interest, which is why they have high open rates.  Take your time when developing headlines.  This is the most important aspect of email marketing.
