50 Shirt Series is More than and a shirt it is a Movement! Through portions of our shirt and hoodie sales we help children whose parents were unjustly killed by law enforcement connect with mental and physical health resources to grow stronger in their communities and homes with support from a village that hears their unheard cries.

Why did you start your business?

4 years ago, my brother was unjustly killed by law enforcement leaving behind 3 children. As a family unit we all had to be there to support as a village. This led me to think how truly blessed we are to be able to lean on each other. What about the children that do not have that and where was the help for the caretakers having to take care of these children?

What do you love about your business?

I love what I do! I get to use my Life’s testimony, experience, passion and creativity to generate an income and serve others.

What were some of your biggest business challenges and how did you overcome them?

One of my biggest challenges was not being consistent and needing a push. I overcame this by joining the Sankofa Sister Circle, a small business development mentor group facilitated by Greta A. Douglas, which helps to push through your purpose and the group holds each other accountable. Also taking advantage of the Wednesday group coaching calls, using tips and worksheets in my Network for Women in Business dashboard (Toni Coleman Brown).

What advice would you give others in your industry?

Start with what you have and get out of your own way. It doesn’t have to be perfect!
